Chittagong Hill Tracts

The Chittagong Hill Tracts are the only extensive hill area in Bangladesh located in Chattogram division in the southeastern part of the country, adjoining its international boundaries with India and Myanmar. It covers an area of about 13,295 square kilometres (5,133 sq miles) and used to be a single district until 1984. It was then divided into three hill districts: Rangamati Hill District, Khagrachari District and Bandarban District. It is a hilly and forested terrain and is currently settled by around 11 different ethnic communities that have been inhabiting here since the 16th century.

Life goes on with ease here and is a tranquil escape from the chaos in the capital of Dhaka. Besides hunting and gathering in the forest, the Jum cultivation presents the economy, society and culture of Chittagong hill tracts a number of distinctive traits compared to the plain lands in the rest of the country.
The Chittagong Hill Tracts area is a naturally beautiful place and a stunning region of hills, ravines and cliffs which are covered with dense jungles. It is one of the top tourist spots to visit in Bangladesh specially for the adventure lovers. You can trek deep inside the hills and can meet different tribal groups and observe their lifestyle.
